Improve Your Stamina with a Mountain Bike from BikesOnline

Biking is an excellent pastime that improves cardiovascular health, strength and stamina. There are different bikes available for all kinds of trips. When getting a bicycle, you need to decide if you're going for a cruiser, road, touring, electric, hybrid, racing or mountain bike since every bike has its respective specifications, standards and intended use.

Choose top-notch quality from BikesOnline selection of mountain bikes for sale.

Mountain Bikes Selection

There are corresponding mountain bikes for your all-mountain or enduro, trail, cross-country, downhill or park and fat-tire rides with many considerations. Knowing them thoroughly before you purchase or commit to any bike is essential.

Manufacturers make most men's and women's mountain bikes according to usage standards so that you can find specific bikes for certain conditions.

Body Length

The correct frame size or body length is the primary consideration for mtb since your comfort and safety should be the main priority. Every company has different standards, so you can't assume a brand's size is similar to another brand's sizing.

Here are some considerations to check depending on preference:

  • Reach - distance from the bars to the saddle.
  • Stack - distance from crank centre to the mid-head tube.
  • Triangle - the triangle formed with the handlebars. A more extended front triangle lets you lean your weight on it without the risk of getting flipped over on the first impact and keeps your front wheel planted for better balance.
  • Standover clearance - distance between the top tube and your crotch while standing with the bike on a straddle. There should be around an inch of clearance for straight and two inches for sloping top tubes.
  • Stem and saddle height - length of bike stem and saddle. The bike stem should be at least an inch above your stem. Try sitting on the bicycle and doing a reverse pedal to check saddle height. The saddle height is too high when your knees lock out at the bottom and too low when they don't seem to get any rest while pedalling.
  • Handlebar width - the length of the handlebars in front. They often have sizes from 38cm to 44cm in increments of 2.

Shorter seat tubes allow for better standover clearance and manoeuvrability . However, getting the maximum pedalling height is beneficial without overextending the seat post. You can still get all the information above even when buying mtb.

Wheels

Bicycle wheels contribute to the overall safety and performance of mountain bikes, so you must determine the wheel properties, tyre materials and measurements such as diameter and width.

There are three properties of bike wheels that you should consider:

  • Light for all-mountain and cross-country bikes. These wheels help you climb better.
  • Strong for all-mountain and downhill mtb. These wheels involve materials and spokes.
  • Aerodynamics consideration only applies to road biking because mountain bikes often don't need to withstand intense air pressure.

You can choose among the standard mtb wheel sizes:

  • 26in for lighter, stiffer and more robust wheels. They are commonly used on freeride, dirt jump and slopestyle bikes.
  • 27.5in/27in or 650b for smoothness and more agility, strength and acceleration than 29in wheels. It's a more balanced and responsive wheel size with less inertia while steering.
  • 29in for heavier and harder wheels with better control and grip on rough terrains.

After getting your tyre diameter, you need to take note of the standard tyre widths available when you buy mountain bikes:

  • 1.9 to 2.25in for cross-country bikes
  • 2.25 to 2.4in for trail and all-mountain bikes
  • 2.5in for downhill mtb
  • 3.7 to 5in for fat-tire bikes and train riding all seasons

The pairing will look like (diameter)x(width). For example, 26x2 describes a tyre with 26in diameter and 2in width.

There are the clincher, tubeless, universal system tubeless (UST) or tubular tyre types for mountain bikes with different tyre treads for the corresponding riding style and performance.

Mountain Bike Suspension Types

Finally, choose the correct suspension from the different mountain bikes for sale online.

Here are the mountain bike suspension types available:

  • Full-suspension or dual-suspension - characterised by front fork and rear shock to absorb severe and shocking trail impacts on your body from both the front and back.
  • Hardtail - characterised by a front fork and no rear, making it less expensive than a full-suspension mtb with fewer moving parts.
  • Rigid - uncommon non-suspension bikes with fewer parts and easier maintenance.
