A Journey of Innovation
The inspiration for EVOC’s innovative products stemmed from personal experiences in outdoor sports. In 1999, during a snowboarding video shoot in the Arlberg region of Austria, product designer Holger Feist encountered an avalanche. Although no one was trapped, Holger injured his back due to an avalanche shovel in his backpack, leading to the realisation that a backpack with a back protector could have prevented the injury. This pivotal moment sparked the idea for a protective backpack.
In 2000, Holger expanded this idea while trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp in Tibet. He discovered that existing bike packs were poorly designed for sports use, prompting him to create a better solution. Upon returning to Munich, Holger began to innovate and experiment with designs.
From Concept to Reality
By 2003, the first prototype of the protector backpack was tested on the trails around La Paz, Bolivia, and it performed exceptionally well. However, the trip highlighted the need for better bike transport solutions after experiencing issues with disassembled bikes arriving at the airport. This prompted the development of the first BIKE TRAVEL BAG, which focuses on functionality, convenience, and protection to ensure cyclists can travel with peace of mind.
In 2008, the EVOC brand was officially established after Holger's long-time friend Bernd Stucke recognised the quality of the bike bag and ordered 50 units for his shop in Hong Kong. This marked the beginning of a journey that would lead EVOC to become a respected name in the cycling industry.
