SRAM: Revolutionizing Cycling Technology

SRAM was born out of a desire to enhance the riding experience. Founded in 1987 by Stan Day, the company introduced its revolutionary Grip Shift shifter, forever changing how cyclists shift gears. What started as a small team with one innovative product has since evolved into a global powerhouse in the bicycle component industry, known for constantly pushing the limits of cycling technology and performance.

A Legacy of Innovation and Growth

From the introduction of Grip Shift, SRAM’s growth has been marked by its bold acquisitions and ground-breaking product developments. In 1997, the company expanded into the drivetrain market by acquiring Sachs, a German manufacturer renowned for its expertise in chains and gearing. This was a crucial step in SRAM's journey to produce complete drivetrain systems. Over the years, they continued to acquire other industry giants like RockShox (suspension), Avid (brakes), Truvativ (cranksets), and Zipp (wheels and accessories), allowing SRAM to provide cyclists with complete, high-performance systems.

Pioneering Mountain and Road Cycling

SRAM's influence is equally strong in mountain biking and road cycling. The 2002 acquisition of RockShox brought the invention of front suspension to the mountain biking world, reshaping the sport. In 2012, SRAM introduced its 1x11 drivetrain for mountain bikes with its XX1 group, which eliminated the front derailleur, offering a simplified and lighter drivetrain system. This development revolutionized mountain biking, reducing mechanical issues and improving performance on technical terrain.

On the road, SRAM launched its first Force and Rival mechanical groupsets in 2006, marking a return to the road cycling market. With DoubleTap shifting technology and the introduction of their top-tier RED groupset in 2007, SRAM rapidly gained a foothold in professional cycling. SRAM RED quickly became a favorite among professionals for its lightweight construction and fast, precise shifting.

SRAM eTap AXS: Leading the Wireless Revolution

In 2015, SRAM launched the game-changing RED eTap, the first completely wireless electronic shifting system. The system's simplicity, precision, and cleanliness set a new standard for road and mountain bike shifting. Soon after, the company expanded its wireless technology to its mountain bike lines with Eagle AXS, a wireless electronic drivetrain designed specifically for rugged, off-road use. With its AXS app, SRAM allowed riders to personalize shifting and integrate control with other components like RockShox's AXS Reverb dropper post.

Commitment to Excellence and Innovation

SRAM’s continuous push for innovation extends to data integration with products like the Quarq power meter, acquired in 2011, which revolutionized how cyclists measure performance. Further integrating technology, SRAM introduced AXS-enabled products that allow for seamless wireless interaction between components, improving functionality and customizability for cyclists. This approach ensures that SRAM remains at the forefront of cycling technology, providing cyclists with the best possible tools to enhance their performance.
